Project Title: Technology for CZTS (Cu2ZnSnS4)-Silicon Tandem Solar Cells
Group: Silicon Microtechnology
Supervisor: Ole Hansen, Andrea Crovetto, Thomas Pedersen
Project Description:
This PhD project is part of a larger effort at DTU Nanotech and DTU Fotonik, i.e. the ALTCELL project. The ultimate goal of the overall project is to develop technology for a CZTS-Silicon tandem solar cell. This entails an improvement of CZTS single cell technology to enhance the efficiency, development of a suitable silicon bottom cell, and solving issues related to integration of the two cells.
Perspective:
A major challenge in photovoltaic industries today is to improve the power conversion efficiency in order to reduce the levelized cost of electricity. The proposed CZTS/Si tandem solar cell can potentially realize enhanced efficiency, beyond the practical and theoretical limits for single-junction devices, while leveraging the well-established manufacturing capacity of the existing crystalline silicon technologies.
