Welcome

We are honored to host this workshop as the 8th edition in a series of CMEMS conferences initiated in 2014 by Prof. Marc Madou at UC Irvine, and continued in San Diego (2016,2018), Hyderabad (2018), Monterrey (2019) and two time as online event during the pandemic. CMEMS is the core international event bringing together a consortium of international researchers focusing on advances in carbon micro- and nanofabrication and novel applications in physics, chemistry and life science. In July 2022, CMEMS will for the first time visit Europe.
We will have leading CMEMS researchers from around the world (USA, Mexico, Germany, India, China, etc) delivering updates on their research programs. Furthermore, we encourage researchers interested in establishing collaborations with the CMEMS community to participate in the workshop.
We hope that you will join us for two exciting days with science, innovation and social interaction with a small but growing community of carbon MEMS researchers. Your participation and expertise are most welcome and highly appreciated.
The topics of CMEMS2022 are:
- New materials: Novel carbon precursors, pyrolytic carbon, graphene, diamond, Q-carbon, nanomaterials
- Advances in processing: Additive manufacturing, casting, lithography
- Physical and Chemical Applications: Nanomechanical sensing, energy storage, energy harvesting, electrochemical sensing
- Life science and Health Tech Applications: In vivo and ex vivo biosensing, bioelectrochemistry, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, point-of-care diagnostics
CMEMS2022 organizing committee:
Prof. Stephan Sylvest Keller, DTU Nanolab, conference chair
Prof. Jenny Emnéus, DTU Bioengineering, conference co-chair
Dr. Dario Mager, Karslruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), conference co-chair
Dr. Monsur Islam, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), conference co-chair

Call for abstracts
We invite all those interested in participating in CMEMS2022 to submit a scientific abstract for oral or poster presentation.
Submission deadline extended to 1 May 2022
Guidelines for abstract preparation: Please prepare your abstract using the word abstract template. The abstracts should include title, authors, affiliations, text, references and figures. The length of the abstract should not exceed the one of the template, with 1 page (left side) of text and 1 page (right side) of figures.
The abstract has to be submitted as a pdf-file to cmems2022@dtu.dk. In your email, please indicate:
- Preferred format of presentation – oral or poster
- If relevant, application for a travel award including a short motivation (2-3 sentences)
- If relevant, expression of interest in pre-conference workshop participation
Authors will be informed at latest on 30 April 2022 about acceptance of the abstract, the format of the presentation (oral/poster) and an eventual travel award

Conference program
The conference will last for two and a half days and include oral presentations, invited talks and a poster session

In the afternoon on July 8, a tour to the microscopy and fabrication facilities of DTU Nanolab will be organized for interested conference participants.
Experimental pre-conference workshop
We would like to offer a pre-conference workshop to give an insight into some of our experimental work on carbon micro- and nanofabrication and the applications pursued at DTU Nanolab. It will take place on July 4-5 2022 and include hands-on sessions on photolithography, additive manufacturing, pyrolysis, electrochemistry and material characterization. Please inform us during abstract submission if you would like to join the experimental workshop.

Accommodation
July is tourist season in Denmark and early hotel booking is recommended. For accommodation, we can recommend the Zleep Hotel Lyngby in close proximity to DTU (https://www.zleep.com/en/hotel/lyngby/). DTU has special rates for this hotel amounting to approximately 620 DKK. If you want to book a room, please contact us to get the DTU discount code.
Another option of a nearby hotel is the Scandic Eremitage in Lyngby. Rooms are available at rates of around 1100 DKK.
