Project Description
The PhD project “Nanofabrication and Electron Beam Characterization of Plasmonic Metasurfaces” is concerned with nanofabrication of plasmonic metasurafces employing deep UV lithography or electron beam lithography, deep reactive ion etching, and metal deposition. The subsequent mapping of high field strength spots on the surfaces will comprise a holographic method using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
Electron holography is a powerful technique that allows the phase shift of a high-energy electron wave that has passed through a specimen in the transmission electron microscope to be measured directly. The phase shift can then be used to map local variations in magnetic and electric fields within and surroundings of the nanostructures. The work will comprise nanofabrication in the cleanroom, finite element modelling of the optical response from the structures and transmission electron microscopy employing the holographic method.”
